Let's Talk About...

Marriage & Commitment

Commiting to a New Life Together - Pre- Commitment

Communication is discussed and developed by engaging in a variety of resources, as Helen is an Imago Relationship Therapist, a modality of therapy developed by Harville Hendrix, Ph.D. The concept of DIALOGUE is taught: mirroring one another so that what is said is actually HEARD, validation – the idea that one can agree that their beloved feels the way they feel but the individual receiving the message sent by their beloved does NOT also necessarily agree to what is also being validated, and finally, empathy: the felt experience of truly BEING the other person; that is, imagining clearly what the other might actually be feeling. Empathy is offered as “you might be feeling…” and must ultimately be identified by the person sending their communication to their Other. The dialogical process develops an essential relationship skill-building communication in a relationship, and results in an increase of trust, intimacy and commitment.
